Ned Sparks, Operations Chief of Loveland Fire and Rescue, will be instructing a 16 hour course covering; Role of the Instructor, Safety, Legal Considerations, Psychology of Learning, Public Speaking, and Instructional Delivery (each student will deliver a fire service oriented presentation to the group on the second day of class). The class will count toward the initial and three year renewal requirements set forth by the Colorado Division of Fire Safety for the Instructor 1 level.

Students are encouraged to read the IFSTA Fire and Emergency Services Instructor, prior to class! Students are also encouraged to bring a laptop computer, (not required), and their choice of fire service related topic to lecture/demonstrate to the class at the end of the second day. Examples of topics; PPE, SCBA, Hose, AED, CPR, etc... This is up to the students.

The student will be evaluated on their ability to present a class utilizing a methodical approach to include planning, preparation, and presentation of the topic selected. The student must attend both days to obtain a certificate of completion. This class does not provide a State of Colorado Division of Fire Safety written or practical exam for Instructor 1, only a great opportunity to hone your presentation skills to prepare for the practical testing, while meeting other instructors in the emergency service field.
